CONDE NAST TRAVELLER

“This compact one-bedroom cottage opposite the village pub in Embleton has a crisp simplicity that perfectly complements the ascetic beauty of the Northumbrian coastal landscape it sits in.”

“Calder Cottage is so cosy even the most committed outdoorsy types will be hoping for a lashing storm so they can nestle down by the wood-burner within the half-panelled living room.”

THE GUARDIAN

“Miles of dunes and beaches are just a few minutes away from Calder Cottage, close to Embleton Bay.”

THE TIMES

“Half a mile inland the one-bedroom Calder Cottage pairs designer flair with sea views across the fields.”

Country Life

“What strikes me here at dawn, with the sun rising out of the sea, is the universality of it… There’s something very special about being up and about and doing things straight after first light.”

“Emble Cabins was our children's favourite summer holiday experience of 2019.

The location is superb for getting round the outstanding Northumberland countryside and stunning coasts.

The best bit was sharing campfires with our guests and laying on our mats stargazing altogether. We arrived as strangers and left as friends."

“My husband and I, plus our three boys had a whale of a time glamping last summer in North Northumberland. As old hands, we thought we knew what to expect under canvas... not so much! The cabins are so nice! The scenery and sparse landscape were just what we needed to blow the cobwebs away.

We hadn’t been to Northumberland before and must say that it is now at the top of our staycation list. It is just so different to the rest of the country, no crowds, great food and more castles, beaches and puffins than you could shake a stick at. We know Cornwall really well and Northumberland knocks it into a cocked hat.”

“We made a last minute booking to attend a family event in September, no kids for the weekend, why not try out luxury glamping!?

We loved it, such a refreshing change to unplug, toast our toes by the wood burner and spend some real downtime in nature. You can feel the heritage everywhere, it really does feel like a frontier land. The hosts gave us some great tips for spots we would never have found ourselves. North Northumberland is so so impressive these days, there are great places to eat, grab a proper coffee, fill your lungs with sea air and put some peace into your soul - and all without having to deal with lots of other people.”

“I arrived at the glorious farm with two stroppy teenagers in tow. A fantastic night of fire-building, star-gazing and card-playing with not an iPhone in sight, followed by hot water bottles in the world’s most comfortable Emble cabin beds worked wonders.

The hosts couldn’t have done more to look after us. Homemade pizzas from their wood fired oven - Nutella pizza is now a firm family favourite! Plus the a well stocked pantry / honesty shop catered for all our food needs. The farm tour was a highlight; Guy is passionate and very knowledgeable.

Quite simply, Emble restores balance to mind, body, soul and to even stroppy teenagers.”

“A wonderful cottage to spend a few days. Relaxing and therapeutic with the amazing scenery and views. Everything in the cottage has been thought of to make our stay comfortable.

Lots to do - from stunning castles to a trip across the causeway to the Holy Islands and a boat trip to the Farne Islands.

Thank you for our welcome goodies - much appreciated!

Delicious meals at the Potter Lobster and The Ship at Low Newton and the amazing Tree House Restaurant in Alnwick Gardens.”

“We’ve stayed in lots of holidays cottages and this must be one of the best - location, equipment, furnishings - all perfect.

When we weren’t looking out of the window or eating in The Greys Inn, we were visiting castles - Belsay, Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Chillingham, Etal - we recommend them all. Also Howick Hall.

We don’t want to go home.

p.s. if this fish and chip van runs out, The Dunstanburgh Castle pub does a good takeaway version!”

From the excellent accommodation, the warm welcome from Lottie, the farm tour that taught not just the kids but the adults a lot about farming, an overall wonderful weekend break in a great location. I would highly recommend this to all.

Emble farm is a wonderful location and the local town of Seahouses is perfect for family trips. A short trip to Bamburgh Castle is well worth it, the beach is just stunning. Finally, a day at Alnwick Castle is time well spent and well worth the money.

Excellent holiday, we didn’t want to come home. Everything was exceptional from the hosts / location / accommodation / food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will be looking to re-book for next year. The accommodation was clean and tidy with everything you need, the beds were very comfy. Our host Lotti looked after us and ensured we had everything we needed. We booked the BBQ and Pizza night; the food was exceptional and I would highly recommend it, it is not to be missed. Just an excellent break, thank you.

This Featherdown Farm is a short car journey from Seahouses and the coast. There are great views over fields towards the sea- perfect for nature lovers to watch deer, owls, and other birds from the tents, as well as local farm animals. The 5 tents are in close proximity, but this doesn’t take away any privacy: they are positioned carefully. In the field, there is plenty of space for children to run free and play with other camping guests. The ensuite toilet and shower is excellent and such a luxury whilst camping. The tents do get quite chilly so we would advise to bring plenty of layers- it is still camping after all! Guy is only too happy to chat and show you around the farm, whilst Lotti is the perfect hostess.
Visit Seahouses and take a boat trip around the Farne Islands to see the seals, guillemots, and puffins. Local towns of Beadnell- including the bay and harbour and Bamburgh are much prettier than Seahouses and worth a visit. Holy Island is a 30 min drive away, Lotti shares tide times, weather forecasts, etc each morning so it is easy to plan and prepare for the day! There are plenty of castles to visit along the Northumberland coast, too
