ABOUT EMBLE
A guide to the elements
A tradition in farming
A working farm and family business with a centuries old heritage of farming in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.
We are a mixed farm - beef and arable - farming innovatively and sustainably.
An invitation to stay
Come and stay! We love to welcome guests to this special place and have designed our properties to be homely and fun. We hope you think so too.
Our foundation is in the north Northumbrian coastal landscape…
Land and sea
A liminal point between land and sea. A coastal plain where the soil is rich and fertile, and the landscape is protected for its unique qualities and beauty. This lies at the heart of our farming, and our stays.
Growing good food
Just like our beef, our arable produce is rooted in good soil. We aim to do the best we can for our soil’s health by using minimal tillage, bokashi fertilisers, crop rotation, reduced synthetic inputs and other techniques.
Beef, the slow way
Everything we do starts with healthy soil. Growing good, healthy food for our cattle and, in turn, producing good, healthy beef for your plates! Our cattle mature naturally and slowly, eating only what we grow here on the farm.
Sun and sky
Our coastal skies are vast and among the darkest in the country. By day, they stretch for miles and are ever changing. By night, the stars inspire awe. And, of course, the vital ‘sky’ elements of sun and rain are fundamental to the farm.
And as part of this rural community, we look after a network of Little Libraries…
Emble Arts
Our charity Emble Arts founded Books by the Sea (and River) during lockdown to provide access for all to books.
The project has installed a network of over 20 Little Libraries all along the Northumberland Coast and River Tweed.
When you stay with us, look out for the Little Libraries when you’re out and about, and join in by the maxim: ‘Leave a book, take a book’.
Our properties all house a few books for you to enjoy while you are here as well.
